Current Accounts On Credit Ref Files

I have all three of my credit reference files and there is nothing on my Call Credit file. The Experian File has a search for GE Money when I applied for their 3% cashback card. There are no searches on my Equifax file and there is one entry for a closed settled NTL account paid up with "0s".

My brtoehr has a similar scant file but his files contain his Current Account. How come mine does not and should it? Is there something wrong?

  • If you don't have an overdraft and handle the account well the banks sometimes don't bother to report to the credit reference agencies. I don't think they have report to the CRAs if they don't want to.
  • My Bank account is called Coventry First with the Coventry Building Society. It has a VISA debit card and a £250 overdraft - but I never go overdrawn.
  • We don't have an overdraft and have never been in the red but ours in on our credit report (joint current account)... maybe some banks just don't bother unless you go over your overdraft or something?

  • I am wondering if it is because the Coventry First account I have is classed as a "savings" account??? Banks don't seem to report "savings" to credit files.

Savings aren't credit though :) So the credit agencies aren't concerned. They are more interested in what you owe as opposed to what you have got saved away.

I currently have three current accounts, but only the one that has an overdraft appears in my experian credit file and the free annual credit report file.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • The Coventry First Account is a savings account but it has a £250 interest free overdraft facility so I would have thought it was classed as "credit" and it has a full VISA debit card not an electron card.
