This is the first 'site feedback' I have done, so I dont know what the ettiquete is, but will I receive any feedback about my idea from the site moderators?
I dont mind if its positive or negative, it would just be nice to know that someone in charge has read it.0 -
Hi RenovationMan
we don't have Moderators on these forums. Just Board Guides and MSE Team.
I am sure the MSE Team read things like this forum, where it involves MSE Feedback, but it might be a few days before you see a reply.
It maybe MSE Andrea that replies.

There is no effective way of banning a forum user. Even if you are lucky and the person disrupting is one of those tiny minorities who have a static IP address, it's trivial to simply route to the site via a proxy, thereby circumventing the ban.
The newest backend community systems work on a trust model; creating a 'footprint' for each user based on several bits of information about their system/behaviour. Such systems can then raise flags when multiple users match the same footprint. Without such systems you're relying on the memory of individual abuse staff members to 'recognise' aspects about certain individuals or, alternatively, cross-check the IP address of every reported post with current and banned members...which is obviously extremely time consuming. The downside of the new breed of community management systems is that they cost...a lot...and this is a non-profit site.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”
