Hubby wants to buy a kindle 3g version, i know there are other ereaders out there but it is a kindle he wants.
Maybe someone who has one can answer a few questions for me please
The 3 g version has "Free 3G Wireless - No monthly payments, no annual contracts"
Am I right that you can get basic web browsing , check emails etc but text only?
if above correct can this be used abroad for same checking email etc.
thanks

1) Yes.
2) Pretty basic browsing and some but not all email services supported (depends again on complexity of the site in question).
3) You can use it for browsing abroad provided the country is one of the ones that kindle (whispernet) support. I have used it in Spain and Germany with no problems at all.
I would not buy to use as a web browser as such but it is invaluable for emergencies and the odd google/wikipedia searches when abroad.
Oh, and it is absolutely the best eReader out there........Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -

Get an Android Tablet, they are just as cheap plus you get FULL web browsing, media support etc. You can even buy a 3G Dongle if you really need the 3G.0

3g is great, ability to buy book anywhere in world where 3g signal, basic web browsing but enough to get by on holiday, there are some weblinks that use rss feeds so you can access web based news as well. for the extra £40 or so its well worth it.
I would download calibre software so you can down load free newspapers. I bought the kindle at launch and have downloaded guardian every saturday and sunday since for free so no more newspapers for me, if you take those kind of things into account its not too long before you start to get the cost of the kindle back down.
One of my best ever purchases0 -

The OP asked about 'Free Browsing Abroad and without WiFi' and I don't think an android tablet could in any way do that. Also reading on a tablet, an iPad or a laptop is completely different to reading using eInk tecknology. The kindle is in no way a tablet and they are two completely different devices.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0
