Hi all,
I am 29 year old and was made redundant on Monday after 10 years with the same firm. I have applied for contribution based JSA. I have a partner who I live with he earns approx 20K. We are expecting our baby in April. Are we able to claim anything else at the moment or when she goes onto SMP. We have never claimed anything before but this is a scary time as it looks like after her first 6 weeks we could be down to 65 JSa and 124 SMP. That is not a lot of money with bills etc.
Sorry for the long post but this is all new to us.
thanks

an income of 20k is too much for wtc. jsa and then smp is it tl after the baby is born. then ctc and cb.
you might get a little hb/lha/ctb but if you do, it will be very little0 -
If you haven't found a job when the baby's born, you could always stay at home and look after it whilst your partner goes back to work, particularly as you could be unlikely to get means tested JSA when your 6 months on CB JSA ends.0

How can you be down to an income of 65 jsa or 124 smp when you've a partner earning £20k?
You're not making much sense to enable a better answer.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

When the partner goes on maternity leave she will only be getting SMP rather than the 20,000 she was on before - so after the weeks at 90% their income will be the SMP plus JSA(C) - least that's how I read it0

Which is why I suggested she went back to work and they'd be living on £20,000.0
