any ideas where i can get a big (ish) bow like florists use on their bouquets?
If you search for a seller on ebay called nickschicks and visit their shop (which is called Flower Power), you will see that they have instructions on making a couple of different types of bows, as well as corsages, etc. I found them the other day when I was looking for cellophane, and was really pleased because now I can do all of the wrapping myself :D

I've had a couple of hampers in my time, and in all honesty once empty there's nothing much to use them for except storage. So have you considered a nice big wicker laundry basket, or log basket. You can pack them, cover and wrap with cellophane and tie with a big bow. Then your mum would have something practical she could use every time she did the laundry!

    This type of thing http://www.cotswoldco.com/uk-info/baskets/willow_wash_basket/9397.html

The florists make their own bows, the tape/ribbon comes in long rolls - you could probably buy a roll from a friendly florist if you asked nicely! (Also the cellophane). It's not that expensive, and lasts and lasts.

Years ago I had a couple in red and gold, and I used them when wrappings all my presents.

:j aww thansk researcher :j i think you have made/decided half of this :rotfl: right i am on the look out for a laundry basket now :) i have seen some florists have pre~made bows (on ribbon) and they just pull one end and they are made... i could prob give it a go at making my own... i think i will have to pop into hobby craft :D

edit ~ just found a pull bow on ebay for £5  i am going to make my own i think :rotfl:

Brilliant, thanks - found them on page 493 (for anyone else that wants to know!) Much safer option than candles - I always feel a degree of responsibility giving candles to people, so definately something worth considering. Thanks!

You could use a wicker laundry basket from Asda, they are £2.97. They're quite large, oval shaped with handles but you could use something like a dressing gown or pyjamas in the base to fill it out a bit.
