Something I did for my Mum she was alive and I was living abroad and broke was to make a wall hanging/collage thingy from little bits of lacy and material, beads etc - a basket of flowers - it cost me hardly anything, but took lots of time and effort -as I'm not a 'crafty' type person. But even if I say so myself, it looked amazing. She had it framed and hung it on her bedroom wall - and I know it was really important to her because of the thought that had gone into it.

You obviously love your Mum so much too and she must be very proud of you. :T

  • just updated my list but i am still looking for ideas ;) also how big do you think the 'hamper' should be... i have seen a few on ebay but i have a funny feeling they will be too small :o also any ideas where i can get a big (ish) bow like florists use on their bouquets? sorry about all the questions... but i made a small handmade soap basket last year for her (will get a picture on here later) so i want to make this a little better as money is a little less tight this year :)

I've had a couple of hampers in my time, and in all honesty once empty there's nothing much to use them for except storage. So have you considered a nice big wicker laundry basket, or log basket. You can pack them, cover and wrap with cellophane and tie with a big bow. Then your mum would have something practical she could use every time she did the laundry!

    This type of thing http://www.cotswoldco.com/uk-info/baskets/willow_wash_basket/9397.html

The florists make their own bows, the tape/ribbon comes in long rolls - you could probably buy a roll from a friendly florist if you asked nicely! (Also the cellophane). It's not that expensive, and lasts and lasts.

Years ago I had a couple in red and gold, and I used them when wrappings all my presents.
