I have some Standard Life shares but hold them in share certificates......I now want to sell these shares but have no idea how to do it

You could ask any broker to sell them for you, such at The Share Centre(Share.com), iii, Halifax, Lloydstsb Share dealing. The price for selling is probably different with all of them.
You could look at their web sites and maybe send an email for the price.
Also, you could speak to someone at Standard Life to ask if they will sell them for you.0 -
I sold some certificates using share.com recently. Sent them in with id and the form from their website Monday. Got confirmation Wednesday they'd sold them the next day. Got the cheque Friday. They only charged 1%. Pretty good service imho.0
