Bank Charges for a closed account -£900

Hi

This is my first post so i hope i include all the info needed for some help!

I have an account with Lloyds that has an unauthorised overdraft which I had completely forgotten about due to moving home and many other personal issues. I recently got my free statutory reports from the usual three company's where the account was detailed.

Let me give you a little more detail about the overdrawn account. I had a loan with Lloyds, which had a direct debit for £9 a month coming out of the current account. When I moved home I also changed banks and what i though was cancelled all my direct debits. This £9 continued to be debited and returned from the current account I was no longer paying any money into, with a £35 charge applied for each returned payment.

I have tried to reclaim my charges before (2007) using the template from this site, the reply i received stated that the company would not repay any charges due to my account being in an unauthorised overdraft.Unfortunately i do not have this reply anymore. I only wanted to reclaim to pay the cash back, or the majority of it and i do not understand why they didn't see that as a positive. After I received the letter, stupid i now know, but i just forgot about it and ignored the letters and stuck my head in the sand!

I am now getting back on track with my finances and have just arranged a repayment plan with my other creditors, Lloyds are yet to catch up with me at my new address (i have moved many times) but with getting everything else in order i don't want it hanging over me. My credit report states that i owe just under £900 for the loan, which i am prepared to take all responsibility for, and just under £900 as the un agreed overdraft which to be honest should not be that high!! (you would have thought that they would have cancelled the direct debit themselves but hey......). The last I heard from them it had been passed to their debt collection department.

So my question is, can I still reclaim bank charges from this account?

Any advice would be great....

Gem x

Have you read the MSE guide to reclaiming bank charges?

If you are not in financial hardship (see the sticky thread on financial hardship online resources), the reality is that you've little chance of success, sorry.
Even if you are in financial hardship, there are still no guarantees of success.
