Gap year???

I'm planning on taking a year out from work next year for about 6 months, but I don't know whether it is wise due to costs and that malark. :(

Is it best to wait a couple of years, or shall I just go ahead and do it?

If so whats the best way to save?

:j

As somebody who has taken several breaks to travel I would encourage you to go now. However...

    1) You haven't said what you will be doing. If it is to backpack round the world then fantastic. If you just want to put your feet up at home you will soon get bored.
    2) If it is traveling and you are worried about costs then think about the cheap countries such as Thailand and the rest of the Far East rather than Australia, New Zealand, USA. It is hard to exagerate the difference it will make to your budget.
    3) Consider work - will they keep your job open? If not and you have to go job hunting when you get back some savings may be needed, parents/friends you can move in with, etc

A well organised gap year can be a life changing experience. You can always find reasons for not doing it or delaying - ask yourself whether they are genuine ones or just nerves.
