old credit card charges

Cut along story short.
Split from husband in 2006.Husband removed all financial support. I got into financial difficulties.
2007. I had a sever a brake down and for the next two years life was a muddle and I was not with it.
During that time my credit card companies applied to the courts and had my debt put onto my house via a charging order. Needless to say these charges are alot of money far more than the origional credit card bill.
What I want to know
Am I able to claim back the excessive credit card charges still, even though I no longer have an account with them?
Can I do anything about the excessive other charges placed on my debt?
I only now feel mentally strong enough to try and sort out the mess im in
Any advice would be great.
Thanks
NCO Xx

Yes, you can still try to reclaim the charges that the MSE guide to reclaiming credit cards charges discusses (i.e. late payment or exceeding your credit limit)

What other "excessive" charges do you have? If they were as a result of getting the court order to get the debt secured against your properry, then presumably they were approved by the court at the time and so unlikley any court will agree with your claims now that they were excessive.

    Thanks Premier for your advice.
Yes the extra charges were for court fee's etc after they passed my account to a debt collection agency who added their bit as well.
Anything is better than nothing so I will be greatful for whatever I can get back.
