Lilaclily wrote:Unfortunately for me christmas isn't a good time. A few years ago my husband passed away two days before christmas and I had to tell my little boy on christmas eve that his Dad wasn't with us anymore.
I have a new friend in my life these days he is very special but I have such a heavy heart at christmas I just don't do very well.
My best present was a gold cherub he had brought a few years before, it is so special.
So I have no sparkle in me anymore, I read this thread to try to give me encouragement, I'll keep trying.

my last christmas although my personal greatest, was marred by (sorry other posters for repeating it again) my darling sister dying of breast cancer at the end of november, we were diagnosed within 5 weeks of each other and we fought it together all the way, she left a son who now lives with me and my daughter - lilaclily you have to make this a happy time for your son, celebrate his dad's life, make jokes about things his dad used to do, make a special christmas snowflake with his photo in it to hang on the tree, so he sparkles, put on a film dad used to laugh at and laugh along with him - it wont take away your grief but it will ease it for you both, remember though to include your new friend in these things, and explain it all to him, so he is not isolated - we include my sister in everything we do, would she, wouldnt she???? - sorry i have rambled again - because your husband has gone he does not have to be forgotten, he sounded a wonderful part of your lives so please have strength and most of all love will help you through.yes you can beat it :j - everyday is a bonus - use it well0 -
My husband asked me to marry him on Christmas morning. The following December, our son was born.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Thankyou for all your replies.
I love reading your stories and have a tear in my eye reading the sad ones.
I am amazed that so many of you share such personal information.
Thankyou. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile

My best Xmas present was in 1991 when my brother came home from hospital. I was only 16 at the time and he was 8. He was very poorly with encephalitis (hope that I've spelt it right) and we were told that he might not make it... He's 23 now.....
On the materialisic side, it had to be in 1985 when me and my sister received a tape recorder each from mum and dad, we thought that it was the best thing since sliced bread, we recorded top of the pops (by putting tape recorder next to TV....); it sounded awful but we thought it was so cool....
2004 was a bitter sweet year, my Gran was very ill in hospital, it was a lovely present that she held on for Xmas Day, but sadly she passed away on Boxing Day....
My mum says her best Xmas present was my sister, she was born on Xmas Day in 1976, she'll be the big 30 this year.....
Happy Xmas to everyone (a bit early I know, but only six weeks to go....)
Take Care,
Kez

hi emilyt
i think that some posters, myself included find that sharing our own experiences can somehow help another reader realise, that there are people out that there do care even though they are strangers and we can offer our ears to anyone who wants to share their thoughts - sometimes its good to anonomously get it all off your chest, or find some brilliant ideas, or get advice for a sticky situation - before i found this site, i was confused, worried and sometimes desperate for answers, but there has always been someone somewhere to point me in the right direction - and strangers they may be but i thank them all from the bottom of my heart for their replies. :Tyes you can beat it :j - everyday is a bonus - use it well0
