Tesco contact lens cleaner

I love most things Tesco (especially all the nappies I could get when the clubcard vouchers got doubled up the last few times) but usually get my contact lens cleaner in Asda, only because for the same price you get 360ml instead of 240ml. I keep forgetting to get it when I'm in Asda so for the last couple of months I've had to nip down the local Tesco to grab some quickly. So, just come back from Tesco's own optician for my contact lens examination who says I now have irritated corneas and thinks I've been storing my lenses in water. TBH, I didn't tell him I use shops own brand, because I didn't want him to know how tight I am, so told him I use Renu (which I don't), and asked him if it could be residue from soap on hands from washing just before taking lenses out. He says no, are you sure you haven't been using water, can cause all sorts of nasty diseases and lead to damaged corneas and loss of sight etc. He said I've to leave my lenses out for 3 days and go back in a week to see how I'm doing. I'm in shock. I've never had any problems with Asdas own brand. I had my eyes tested last summer as part of a mystery shop and there were no problems, then had to get them tested again in December because I wanted to use my NHS voucher toward glasses in Specsavers and again, no problems.Only went to Tesco because I can use the clubcard points. So there you go, from Tescos own opticians. If you use Tesco own brand cleaner, you might as well use water. BE WARNED!!!!

Does it say it's suitable for your type of contact lenses? I gather different lenses need different solutions? If it does, take this up LOUDLY with Tesco!0

yes its probably a general multipurpose solution but it won't sterilise the lens as such, that is usually a liquid to which you add a neutralising tablet, it is quite possible to get eye infections anyway no matter how hygenic your lens care routine, as a general rule any solution which is safe to use straight from the bottle onto the lens and into the eye, won't be strong enough to kill the real nasties, having said that loss of sight through contact lens infection in this country at least is extremely raresquaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0

I used Tesco contact lens cleaner until about a year ago.I found that half-way through the day my lenses were getting blurry so I went for a check up. The optician found my sight hadn't changed but suggested that the cleaner wasn't strong enough to remove all the debris. He recommended Boston cleaner which is much more expensive but I haven't had any problems since and wouldn't recommend the Tesco one as a result.0
