Hi,
I Live with GF, no children yet and have just been laid off from job that I've been doing for 3 months part time. I spend rest of the week at college (day and evening approx 19 hrs week). Prior to that worked full time since leaving school in various PAYE jobs 20 yrs ago.
I went to sign on for JSA and was told I wasn't entitled to anything as I'm considered to be in full time eduction. The wage I earned funded college course/travel and small contribution towards bills. GF earns 20k so deemed "too rich" for any other help.
I've no assets or saving I'm not sure what I'm supposed to live on?
Is this correct?
Thanks

It's correct, yes. There's nothing to stop you getting a part-time job.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

You and your girlfriend are meant to live on her income. £20,000 for two to live is on is plenty. As you're in education are you able to claim Adult Learning Grant?
Put your details into the benefits calculator below to see if you're entitled to anything else.
If she doesn't already, make sure your gf is getting a single person discount for her council tax - as a student you don't count for council tax purposes.

Are you doing one course spread out over day and evenings or are you doing two or more part time courses?0

Unless you have agreed restrictions which are based on circumstances that are normally outside your control (i.e. childcare, caring for family members, disability), JSA is paid for you to undertake full time job searching. There are very few students who are entitled to any support from JSA because of these reasons.0
