Hi,
I'm sorry if i've posed this in the wrong section.
My children and I all need new passports which means we all need new photos. Now my question is, do i have to use those photo booths at 5.00 a go and have photos left over or can I do them on my own camera and print the passport size ones off in boots like I did for my son's buspass?
If I only need 1 or 2 from each of us, is there such a place that would do this rather than me paying out 15.00pounds for photos?
many thanks in advance

Hi Crispeater
We have just replaced our passports. We have never gone to those photo booths as I think they are a waste of money!
We just take our families photos against a cream coloured wall in our house. We check online for the sizes needed for the photo and make sure we follow the no smiling / glasses / hair over face etc etc etc rules. We don't have a professional camera or anything. Just make sure the room is light.
We print out using glossy paper and cut to right size.
Our passports have arrived and the photos were accepted, as they have always been. :j
Hope this helps. x"If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can't buy":j0 -

It's OK cutting to the right size but you need to make sure the face is of the prescribed dimensions as well. No more than 34mm from top of head to chin, and no less than 29mm. If you have photoshop then follow this. It is for U.S. passports but the face dimensions are the same for U.K. Just trim the finished photo down to size (U.S. ones are bigger)The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

We used this site for passport photos for our baby: http://www.picturelizard.co.uk/ £2.99 for 6 photos, guide to how to take the photo properly on the site, really good quality, cut to the right size for you and come though really quickly. It's 6 photos of each person though, so would still cost you £9, but better than £15. Worth it if you think that you might need photos for other things in the near future, e.g. travel pass, driving licence, etc.0

I've used this one a couple of times: epassportphoto.com (the forum wouldn't let me post an actual link, I'm too new apparently :-( )
It's a piece of cake, follow the instructions & you end up with a document which you just print on any decent colour printer.
They offer to print them and post them to you, but this isn't necessary if you don't want it - getting the photos electronically is free. There is an advert on the page sent back to you, but I can live with that to save £4+ a time!0 -
We went the digital camera route. Used a cream coloured bed sheet over the garden fence as a background, picked an overcast day to avoid shadows and snapped away.
Used picasa (free software from google) to edit out reflections from my glasses and to crop to the right size. Saved to a CD-RW and had them printed at Asda for about 60p for a set of 6. Less than £1.50 for the two of us.
