Halifax has pocketed £10

I paid in £70 in cash at the Halifax yesterday. Unfortunately because I was rushing I didn't check the receipt the guy gave me, and when I checked my account online today, it's shown up as a £60 payment. I found the receipt and it also says £60. Do I have any chance of getting the £10 back?

i would'nt say so is there anyway to prove you paid in 70?If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0

Don't they usually ask you how much you are paying in? They always do at Natwest. Its to stop you just giving them money and saying you gave them more than you did0

Ring/call in at the branch a.s.a.p. They will have been £10 over when they did the end of day cash up.Ethical moneysaver0

No, they didn't ask. I can't see how I prove I paid in £70 either. My partner took out that amount from a cash machine to give me his half of the gas and electric bill, but didn't get a receipt.Phoenix79 wrote:Don't they usually ask you how much you are paying in? I did think that they would probably find £10 extra when cashing up, but wasn't sure whether they are always that accurate?3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000 -
I'd speak to the branch and tell them what happened. Did you fill in the paying in slip?0

No - my partner has just told me off for this. They just swipe your card at the Halifax. I will always be filling in a paying in slip from now on...Phoenix79 wrote:I'd speak to the branch and tell them what happened. Interestingly you said so...my brother deposited £270 in my account from a branch in Bath last month. He gave £270 cash to the cashier. When he checked the receipt, it was only £170. He returned the branch within an hour and sorted it out.
Maybe I should add, the casher did confirm the figure £270 with him. And he couldn't read small figures without his glasses.0 -
I used to work in a bank and at the end of every day we had to balance our tills.
I am sure if you remember which till/cashier you paid at they would be able to cross check to make sure the till balanced that night quite easily!
Hope you get it sorted!0 -

Halifax do not use paying in slips - why a receipt is important to be checked. When i was a cashier i always asked how much money was handed to me before i counted it for myself and to the customer.
however, others are right. the cashier would have had a cash error. just ask in branch0
