Bone in Chicken Pie....

Mum purchased one of those small Chicken Pies (for 1 person) from a major supermarket and I was horrified that she found a piece of bone in the pie and she nearly choked (she is 90 years old).
Returned the pie to the store and they said they would pass it to their CS team to investigate.
8 days later received a reply stating...
""I'm sorry you found a piece of bone in your...."
and
" We try hard to remove all traces of bone....we can't guarantee it....most products contain a warning..."
what would readers here assume "traces of bone" or "a piece of bone" in a chicken pie (approx 5" diameter) should equate to...
1/8 inch
1/4 inch
1/3 inch
1/2 inch
they go on to say " To make sure our supplier does everything they can to improve the checks they make, I've told them about your complaint. I assure you they will do their best to make sure it doesnt happen again."
They sent my mum a £10 voucher to say sorry as well.
I just get the impression that the supermarket hasn't really looked at this properly, hence my question, what do readers here think "traces of bone" should mean.

No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere

It means that there may be some pieces of bone that get through the manufacturing process and you may find a piece of bone in your pie.
which you did.."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
its quite a big bit and must have been unpleasant but chicken does have bones in it.....make your own pies and u can police the filling carefully
i hope your mum is okonwards and upwards0 -
Sorry to hear about your Mum, but chickens are very difficult to bone completely. What did you want the supermarket to do? Did you tell them what you would have preferred? This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

I am trying to guage what is an acceptable size and whether or not standards and safeguards are enough for a piece of bone approx an inch long and 1/3" diameter (leg bone) in a small pie also if others believe the reply is dismissive
so thanks for taking the time to reply to the "traces of bone" question, perhaps you could spare a bit of time now to answer the other bits?:beer:No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -
thans for the answers so far, and mum is ok although a bit shocked at the time...fortunately I was there having cooked the pie, hence feeling just a bit guilty...No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0

its a piece of bone, from an animal that was meant to be in the pie.
Im not sure what the big deal is - your mum got a free pie and a £10 voucher.
Where are you wanting to go with this? Whats the point of the questions?
Its just a chicken bone, in a chicken pie.0 -
Maybe have a veggie pie next time - no chance of bones0

time to just get over it mamabuddah.
It was chicken bone in a chicken pie, the packaging stated there would be traces, it happens.
Differnt story if there was a piece of metal, or someone's finger.
This is too much of a nanny state and if something is wrong with your food even with warning of 'possible' bones, what do we do... oh we must sue of course.
Your mum was shocked but got over it, no long term harm was caused.
Different story if there was no warning.
Fish is another one, i hate fish bones, got a thing about fish that it puts me off fish, but i still try to eat it, and i know there are risks that there are bones...... you live with it.
You don't need to feel guilty, unless you put the bone in yourself.
This is just down to the way food is prepared in factories by robots and machinery, not humans, but even then we can make mistakes0 -

Problem solved, what more do you want; another pie, or blood on the carpet? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
If I were going to find a piece of bone in my pie, I think I'd like it to be on the larger side anyway; less chance of eating it. I don't mean the size of an entire leg or skull or something; that would be ridiculous. But the size in the picture's fine.
That pie looks awfully dry though.
