CCJ i was not aware of, what do i do?

I've just been told by my water company that I have a CCJ from them on a previous address. I was not aware of this at all and never received any paperwork to advise that this would be happening. I lived in a flat and often did not receive post. The water company say I can't pay them the money but I don't know how to go about paying this bill, which I am perfectly happy to do, and getting this CCJ off my credit file.
Please please help!!!

Do you know how long ago the CCJ was put on your file?
Not sure if you may be able to get it set aside.
Have they given you a bill for this or any idea if they have sold the debt on to someone else?
You can check your credit file free at experian or equifax (if you cancel within 30 days)After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

I got a copy of my credit file and it wasn't on there, but when i checked my score it was poor and it said i had a CCJ. (Equifax)
From what the water company said it would have been in sept/oct 2010.
I've never received a bill or any communications about this at all and had no contact from any debt collection agencies etc.
The first i knew was when i closed my water account to move house and i paid the final bill over the phone, the operator said you also have an outstanding amount that has gone to court and a CCJ has been issued!!0 -
Have a search on the forum for "set aside". You may be able to get the CCJ cancelled, then after the water company reapply you will have 28 days to pay it off before it goes on your file again.
I don't know much about the court stuff so others may be able to assist with this. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Go into your details and make sure that this address is listed as one of your previous addresses, or contact them to get them to add it. I've had this happen to me but on Experian, which is why I didn't see the CCJ for so long. From what the water company said it would have been in sept/oct 2010.

I had a very similar thing happen to me with my water company, but I didn't find out about the CCJ until near enough 3 years after it had been placed! It is possible to get it set aside, as I managed to, as there had been a computer error that meant my final bill had not been calculated until nearly 9 months after I'd told them I'd moved. I'd already moved again when they sent out the bill, and so never received it.
I'd advise you to speak to the water company, and find out why a final bill wasn't sent when you moved the last time, as you should have provided a forwarding address.
Hope you manage to get this sorted.::: Total Paid Since LBM (27/05/10): £4639.85 Official Debt Gone!! :T ::::AThat money talks, I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"~ VSP2011: #104 ~
