Tesco Outlet on Ebay - Returns Problem

I ordered a dinner set (Item Number 290526908020 £13.97) from the Tesco Outlet on Ebay. When it arrived, one of the plates was broken and another was badly scratched. I have been trying to get a replacement, but so far, after ignoring several emails, all they have ofered is a partial refund. How do I insist on getting a complete dinner set from them? I have opened a returns case in My Ebay but they haven't replied to that either!

If you've waited a few days with no reply to eBay message or to email then you could open a SNAD (significantly not as described) case in eBay or in PayPal. However, even if you win the case, you will have to return the item by trackable means (to prove it arrived back to the seller). Legally, if the product was faulty, the seller is obliged to pay the return postage; however, PayPal can only enforce making them refund what was originally paid ie cost of item + original P&P, so you will need to weigh up whether to go down this route for an inexpensive but heavy item.

Tesco is still Tesco, even online, so personally I would kick up a fuss if they refused to refund, make a formal complain to their head office, to people whose job is to keep customers happy and negative publicity away from the news (and online forums ;))

PS recently have had a couple of returns, with companies I did not trust, one even abroad, and it's all gone well, so I would say be optimistic, a reputable company will want to do the right thing.

Just to update, I opened a SNAD case yesterday and this morning Tesco Outlet gave me a full refund and told me to dispose of the set myself as it was too expensive to pay for return postage.
  • Excellent result. :)
