You're kidding, right? What on earth has trying to find out how much it was worth, then working out from that how much it is likely to be worth now, a plan to scam an old lady??
Botchjob, I have considered that. I am assuming there is a reason no-one's built on it in God-knows-how-long since it's been empty, and have heard rumours it's something to do with the demise of the previous house built on the plot, but only rumours. You are right that if it is possible to get planning permission on it, it would be worth way more than we'd be wanting to pay.
Thanks everyone, anyway. I've rang the Land Registry, and they can help me if I fill in a form and bung them a fiver. I also have an estate agent popping round for something unrelated on Tuesday so I can ask him how much he reckons it would be worth. My initial plan to figure out it's value was to 1) just pop round and ask how much she'd want for it, but she won't answer the door, or 2) ask an estate agent how much value it might add to my house and then offer her that much - I don't want to make a profit here, I just want extra space to give my dogs extra exercise once my baby's born, to keep them calmer around her/him - but apparently it won't add anything so I was back to square one, trying to find another way to figure out what to offer her.Saving for a house deposit.
Trying to sort clutter and sell as much as possible to make room and money!0
