    Good luck. :)
  • Hi Summer,

When you handed back your company car did you opt for car allowance instead?
Quite often a company car/car allowance is offered as part of your salary package, it's not strictly for those needing a car in order to do their job that get one. You could always email your HR department and say you handed back your car before going on maternity leave however in actual fact your circumstances are such that having a car would be the better option for you, could they let you know what the option would be.
    Hope thats of some help.

I think you'll be able to get it back as my friend managed to get hers changed from a BMW 1 manual for a Espace Automatic as she has pelvic problems. I still think you'll get taxed on it regardless as your tax code will change to compensate for you having a taxable perk and depending on if you get personal mileage eg fuel that too. You could have a word with the tax office as they'll tell you.

As for maternity rights letting you have it back, I'm guessing you didn't sign anything. My friend gave up her phone but kept her car regardless.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I just want to say that you don't need a car to get out. I don't drive and I have had my buggies on the bus loaded with my groceries and to outings. Would be a lot cheaper to take the bus then to continue paying tax on the car? I'm expecting another baby and I'll be out with both of them.

If it's cold, I just bundle them up and put the raincover on to keep the chill out and she's never complained.

You can also look for mommy and baby groups or look on netmums to meet other mums near you so you can get out and meet others.
