Personal Details sent to someone else DWP

Hi

I wonder if someone can help me.

I currently have an appeal going through with the income support department for an overpayment about 5 years ago.

I have been paying the overpayment for some time but appealed as it was a mistake made on their part.

However this isnt my issue, I have no problem paying monies back as I work.

I received a letter today advising me that my evidence has been received and that they have attached a copy to the letter sent to me, however, the pages attached to my letter are someone elses.

I have copies of letters from a lady with lots of personal and private information on them regarding appointments they have with various doctors and hospitals etc. I have to assume that as I have not received copies of my letters then this lady has received my paper work. I am not happy about this because I also sent in a lot of personal information to the tribunals service about my home life, situation, money details etc.

I am quite annoyed and wondered if there is something I should be doing. Should I make a complaint to the appeals service?

Thanks for any help.

  • Yes, make a complaint!

They are quick enough to tell you when we make mistakes!

This is a breach of confidentiality and needs to be reported.

Last year I received several letters from DWP to my address but to another name - the letters talked about repayment of Social Fund Loans and an overpayment of Income Support. The persons named never lived in this house and I don't know them either. The interesting thing is that they have decided to make light of this obvious mistake!

Put in an official complaint to the Data Protection Registrar. They have the ability to fine DWP.
