Help with Travel Costs

Hi, I'm after some advise please !

My husband and I live in the Portsmouth Area and he has been diagnosed with a rare type of tumour which can only been treated in London by specialists.

I have been trying to find help with travel costs - however the only information I seem to be able to find say that he needs to be on a low income etc we are both working full time ( well, I am due on maternity leave in a few weeks) Having to travel to London is not cheap and I was wondering if anybody knew if:
a- we are entitled to any help at all
b- who to contact as I am having no luck at all !!

Thanks in advance

I can't answer your specific benefit entitlement but just wanted to bring to your attention the Greyhound bus service in case you aren't aware of it.

Though the fares are allegedly from £1, they seem to average about £14 to £21 return. Might be worth finding out if the National Express and Megabus are also on those routes.

You may be able to claim transport costs due to certain circumstances, have a look at the HC11 document for England found here:
    http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/HealthCosts/1558.aspx

I would also speak to the doctor who referred your husband to the London hospital as it may be possible to get the P.C.T. to contribute towards travel.

Also speak to the hospital in London as specialist hospitals often have schemes to help pay for transport/accommodation costs for patients travelling long distances.
