First Direct when you're a student

I'm a (poor) student and have my main current account with first direct.
I also have a HSBC student account, however all I do is transfer money from the £500 overdraft to my first direct account whenever I need a top up, and occasionally transfer a bit back to HSBC when my loan goes in.
First Direct wont give me any credit/overdraft (bar the £250 overdraft the account came with).
Is it worth switching everything to HSBC so that they'll increase my overdraft and give me a student credit card when I need one, or shall I just stay with first direct?

1.If you are a "poor student" as you say. Perhaps these banks do not wish to give you credit or a higher overdraft because they are unhappy with the way you are dealing with your finaces now. If that is the case, I doubt they will.
2. Maybe you should see if you can join a "Credit Union". The banks will never tell you about them for sure!

First Direct aren't really aimed at students. I would use the HSBC account if I were you, as it has built-in student overdraft and maybe other benefits?0
