Late fees

I have a santander credit card and fell into some financial difficulty due to losing my job last year. Now at minute due to another issue i cannot make the minimum payment but i am making payments before the due date but they are still putting charges on my account for late payment. Should i be claiming these charges back as technically they are not late? Can anyone help??

  • if you arent paying the full payment on time then they see it as you payin late, nothing to stop you paying 2 payments before the due date to avoid late payment charges,as for claiming back then i doubt it
  • Are you making the minimum payments if not, then yes it will be a legitimate late payment fee.

If you have failed to meet the contractual minimum payment you can call their collections team, explain your situation, and they should agree a reduced payment plan atop reduced / frozen interest whilst you are suffering financial hardship.

This will affect your credit rating but it will also enable you to clear the debt in a more manageable and cheaper manner.
