Friends,

We are planning for trip to turkey during April long weekends.
Planning to go for 5 couples..
Hopefully visiting ankara and istanbul

The best flights we can find is £160pp and hotels around £40ish pcpn

Anyone recently went to Turkey? If yes, can you please help in finding cheaper flights?

Also any advice on stay and hotels to visit would be great..

Thanks in advance

    Sorry, just read it again:o
Easyjet or Pegasus to Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW) on the Asian side of Istanbul. Best source for flights is skyscanner.
Sultanahmet is the main tourist area of Istanbul. A few excellent budget hotels are Hanedan, Grand Peninsula, Peninsula, and Agan. But there are literally hundreds to choose from, and it'll do your head in trying to find the very best for your money. So take my word, from the few I've mentioned you won't be disappointed. Staying at the Agan in 3 weeks for £25 for a double B&B per night, before flying down to Antalya.
Istanbul is an awesome place, so you won't have time to do Ankara over the same long weekend.
The Trip Advisor discussion forum is excellent, and will give you loads of ideas to fill your time in.
PM me if you want, but do a bit of research on TA first.

Ankara is the modern capital city, but not really a tourist destination.

Most charters (and that means really cheap flights) go to the resort towns on the coast rather than Istanbul.

No tourists! That's what makes it special.
Went to Ankara last June by overnight sleeper train from Istanbul.
Really enjoyed it. As you say Ankara is modern, but still has an old part of town and Citadel. There are some great places to visit such as the Museum of Anatolian Civilisation, and Anit Kabir which is the mausoleum of Atatauk (the founder of modern Turkey). We spent a full morning at the latter, it's free, wonderful views all over Ankara, and all the exhibits are signed in Engish. And you learn such a lot about the country.
There are some lovely big wide open spaces. At the end of day there is Bar Street, where you can sup Efes to your hearts content, have an inexpensive meal, and relax while you people watch. No trouble whatsoever.

We only had a couple of days in Ankara before taking the bus to Goreme in Cappadocia. Magic destination!

EasyJet fly to Istanbul (SAW) every day from LGW. We're going on 26 Feb. Total cost for 2 of us including one hold bag each was £152.91. On our other 2 visits the cost was about the same. On 28 Feb we're flying by Pegasus from SAW to Antalya. Inclusive return flights for 2 was £43.25! Cheaper than the bus!!

Turkey really is a great place!!
D-i-Y, get stuck in and you'll be rewarded.
