caR REPAIRS
Hi
Wonder can anyone offer me some advice - my son bought a car last week and when he was driving it home from the garage the clutch went. The garage towed it in and after 3 day said there was damage to the gear box too.
Its now ready for collection but they are saying he has to pay a contribution towards the cost of the repairs as they say the damage to the gear box is down to him.
What does anyone think?
Sue

I think they are taking the p.. If on the first drive he ruins the gearbox he must be one awful driver! If you are up for a battle I would suggest to the garage that you appoint a (mutually agreed) independent tester - if the independent tester says the damage was done on first drive you pay for the testing, if they say it was underlying damage they pay, and pay for full repairs. If they are taking the mickey they may well back down. I'm no mechanic, but I would have thought that 'new' damage could be spotted from 'old' by a qualified tester.0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. A Seat Leon Cupra on an 03 plate - all I know is the clutch "went" and garage are saying there was damage to gear box caused by my son getting it home after this happened0

Think we may have a fight ahead of us but I'm not caving in - especially as my son's unemployed so its me who will have to pay.0
