Clip in hair extensions, can anyone offer advice?

I've got a set of red synthetic clip ins that I mainly use for special occasions/dressing up and to be honest it's very hard to tell the difference between them and my real hair! Provided the colour is matched correctly and someone else puts them in your hair (I find it very hard to do myself at the back) then I can't see them being a problem. Plus they're always cheaper than human hair, especially good quality stuff
Oh and mine are wavy/curly already, I find that looks better than straight extensions anyway. 0 -
i had a set of good quality clip ins(real hair) and they were fab. once i curled them it stayed in, so i got a few wears out of the curls, then would wash them after about 4/5 times wearing them just to refresh them a bit. but ive recently changed hair colour and couldnt afford good quailty real clip ins so i got some synthetic ones. it was a big mistake and total waste of money. the colour match is perfect but the texture of them is so awful. the only way i can describe it is they are far to shiny if that makes sense. i would deffo ask to see the synthetic ones just to see what you think.0

I have shoulder length wavy/curly hair that I add extensions to to make it waist length and full, I don't need any accessories either to hide bits another bonus of finding the right style and colour match:)
Hey glowgirl, I am never going to be inspired by your hair again.
I bought a clip in fringe after your fringe adventure in the Jennifer Aniston thread but I look like a serial killer with it in
It might be better once I cut it a bit shorter but OMG I am glad I wasn't as spontanious as you :rotfl: I look like I should be holding up a card with my prisoner ID on it:rotfl: If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
I've used synthetic and human hair clip in extensions - I much prefer real hair. I found the synthetic hard to style, and found they wouldn't hold - whereas as I dyed, straightened, curled, washed my real hair ones over and over and they lasted about a year.
Depending on where you live, there's a place in Birmingham called Juliet's that sells great clip in extensions, I think it's about £40 for a full head set x0 -

:rotfl:Lol, omg hun:eek: at least you dont have to wear it, I had a look at the clip ins and thought they did look a bit thick and like they didnt move but as you know I went for the chop anyway;)(best thing I ever did btw) I'm pretty relaxed about beauty stuff going wrong, might stop posting on the beauty board now, dont want to cause distress:rotfl:Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -

Hello, I do hair extensions and to be honest I stay well away from synthetic hair because it doesn't give you the best look.
Human hair is best.
If it's just for the ONE day then you can get some good fake hair clip in's but they won't last after that they become dry and you can't do anything with them.
Human clip in's can be styled with your own hair as you would your normal hair.
Hope that helps, any questions your welcome to email me,

haha, it makes me think of you everytime I clip it in. Definitely less Jennifer Aniston and more like the local weirdo.
I will straighten it and cut it and see if that makes a difference. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

Hi,
I'm a self-confessed clip-in extensions hoarder and have tried countless different types, both synthetic and real hair (and wasted an awful lot of money in the process!). I really do dislike synthetic extensions, I find that they look fake and have a 'plasticy' texture, like a Barbie doll's hair, which really gives it away that they aren't real. I have had a set of curly synthetic extensions and I thought the curls looked fake and horrible, they also became a tangled mess very easily. The only benefits to synthetic extensions are that they are usually cheaper than real hair and also, from an ethical point of view, you are not wearing someone else's hair on your head.
With real hair extensions I understand that many people are concerned about the ethics so it depends how bothered you are about where the hair may have come from. I have tried real hair extensions bought from Ebay and also from various websites and have always been disappointed with the amount of hair in a 'full head set' - I have quite thick hair and find it is nowhere near enough to look anywhere near natural! I then bought a full head set of Headkandy clip-in extensions after reading countless positive reviews and was very impressed. They are not cheap, at £75 for a set, but I really feel they are worth the money because the quality and thickness of the hair is incredible. I've had my first set nearly a year and they're still going strong, despite blonde, dyed and constantly curled/straightened! They also have a huge choice of shades and very helpful staff who will colour match to the right shade for your hair.
I understand that your hairdresser wants to source them for you but I really recommend, if you decided to go for real hair, that you get Headkandy. You don't necessarily have to pay the full whack from the Headkandy website though - I will confess that the last set I bought was off Ebay and I paid £40 for the full-head set, an absolute bargain! (Because Headkandy have strict rules on returning extensions that have been opened, many people who've bought the wrong colour and opened them then put brand new sets on Ebay, you just have to be patient and wait for your colour to come along!)
Don't worry about the curl holding, I curl my extensions with heated rollers or straighteners and the curls stay put all day. Sorry if I sound patronising but I didn't want you to make the same hair extension mistakes that I have, especially on your wedding day!.
Good luck, let us know how you get on xxx0 -
I accidentaly bought synthetic hair last summer, they were advertised as real and I realised they weren't when it came to curling them, they just wouldn't curl at all, but the hair itself did look nice and I did get lots of compliments on it.
If it is just for your wedding day then I would say it will be fine, providing you buy them in already curled.
If you want longer term use then definitley get real hair.0
