Clip in hair extensions, can anyone offer advice?

Hi all,

I'm getting married in May and saw a hairdresser yesterday for a consultation. My hair is quite long (boob length :D) and I want it quite natural looking half up and half down, the down bit all wavy. I was intending to buy clip in human hair extensions to give me the look of thicker hair as mine's quite fine and so the majority of my own hair could be piled up on my head. The hairdresser seems to think I'd be better off with good quality clip in synthetic extensions which I'm a bit concerned about. She said that the wave would fall out of my own hair and the human clip ins really easily. Apparently the synthetic extensions can be bought already curled and will look the same all day.

I hate the idea of synthetic hair, I find it difficult to believe that they'll look natural and I'm worried the difference in texture will show.

Has anyone had any experience with synthetic hair compared to human? Should I just trust my hairdresser or run a mile!

Could you look at Paul's World website? The people there are so helpful and they have synthetic and human hair. I have had clip in extensions from there many times and have been really pleased with them. You can find them on Facebook too.

My hairdresser is providing the extensions for me so I don't need to worry about that. I'm just concerned that she wants to use synthetic hair and I'm worried this won't look natural enough.

    Personal experience here..

I have never tried the synthetic extensions, however I bought some human hair ones and had them curled along with my own hair for a wedding.

The curl stayed in the whole night and I slept with them in,, was rather tipsy and could`nt be bothered to take them out when I got home.;)

They were still good enough to go out the next night,, with a little bit of curling with straighteners for a few straggly ones.

I bought human hair clip ins from ebay for about £25. I have hair the same lenght as you and found these really good for adding body. I like the human ones as they look natural and you can use hot stylers on them. I would think that with some product there is no reason why your hair would not hold a curl.
  • I suspect you don't have confidence in your hairdresser. If you don't like her professional advice then why not try someone else to see what they say? If she doesn't feel comfortable that she can guarantee your hairdo with natural hair clip ins and that's what you want then she isn't the right hairdresser for you anyway surely?

TBH I know absolutely nothing about hair so I will have to trust the professionals. Its not that I don't like her advice, it just wasn't what I was expecting and I was wondering if anyone else had used good quality synthetic extensions, I still think of them as fuzzy 'Sindy' hair but they're probably much improved nowadays.

Why don't you buy some cheap one off ebay to get you used to the texture of them. I bought a real hair clip in fringe and the thought gives me the heave of wearing some farmed hair on my head! Synthetic doesn't have me thinking about the person who has sold their hair lol

ask her for a trial, as they are clip in they can be used over and over agan and if u dont like the texture ask for human hair.

I have fine hair that refuses to curl, ad had human hair exts for my wedding, the curl held in them all day and was still curly in the evening but it had dropped a bit.

My friend is a hair dressed, she recommended a wibesite called http://www.halohairextensions.com/
she curls mine like the rest of my hair and they stay in all day, the curl never drops. Also the curl is the same because she used the same on both, i would be worried they wook look different maybe if they come already curled?
When she was about to curl them last time she said to me these are defo human hair arent they, synthetic cant be curled then. i love to use my straight or curly, least if you went for real hair you could re use them after the wedding.
i wish i had know about hair extensions when i got married, i didnt even fake tan then or put false lashes in lol  x

I use clip in synthetic hair extensions every day and get compliments all the time from both men and women and hairdressers who don't even realise I have extensions in:eek:. The key to them looking good is the colour match, don't be fooled by sites/sales people that say it will blend in if the match is off, it wont it will look fake and quite possible nasty:( I would never ever buy real hair extensions from a moral point of view since I saw a documentary about where the expensive ones come from (young girls selling there hair to feed thier family) and the cheaper ones are from people picking up discarded hair from rubbish tips in India, its so sad and of course yuck!

I have shoulder length wavy/curly hair that I add extensions to to make it waist length and full, I don't need any accessories either to hide bits another bonus of finding the right style and colour match:)
Thank you for this site Martin

    Good luck for the future
