anyone heard of 'ConsumerSavingCentre.co.uk'?

New to forum so hello to all you moneysavers, great to join you all finally. Ive just received email notification from ConsumerSaving.co.uk advising me Ive won a 'free laptop' (yeah right). Of course, being that theres no such thing as a free lunch Im extremely dubious. The terms are that you have to take up 2 of a list of 'offers' ie join blockbuster, join a childrens book club etc and recommend a friend.....But even so - a FREE LAPTOP??? Anyways, before I throw it into the trash can has anyone heard of these people? Is it remotely bonafide or a big ole scam as cynical me suspects? Thanks.Ciao.

Aha, so thats how you do a signature!
  • It's a pyramid scheme, no matter how they dress it up - and 90% of the time you're led there via a referral link (so someone else benefits). For some reason I was duped into trying my luck with a similar company.

As you probably know there is no free laptop, the laptop isn't free anyway, and you're far better off taking up the offers through cashback sites such as Free Fivers or MutualPoints.

(Won't post any links because I'm not cheap!)

Mathematically, in any pyramid scheme about 88% of members of the scheme are the losers and will never make anything.

This was illustrated in pyramid scheme that was operating in the Isle of Wight. After a few weeks there wasn't enough suckers left on the island to recruit, and the whole thing collapsed.

Exactly, I mean it's common sense that the resources (money) have to come from somewhere, they don't magically appear. And because it's a geometric progression, even if you only need to take advantage of two people each, you don't need that many levels on the pyramid before you need more people than there are in the world.

BBC Three Counties Radio consumer programme investigated the "Women Empowering Women" pyramid scheme that was operating in the Milton Keynes area a few years ago. They managed to interview some of the organisers who insisted that "everyone was a winner" and that you couldn't lose. All it needs is to sit someone down in front of a blackboard and show them the simple maths involved in these schemes.

In this case women were paying out £3,000 in the hope of getting back £24,000. They had to recruit 7 other people and persuade them to part with their £3,000 . Doubtless to say the whole thing collapsed and many people lost their money. The shameful thing about this particular scheme was that a couple of the organisers were well-known business women in the area, and members of the local chamber of commerce.
