Little question; is the rug on a hard floor, or carpet?
Also, there may be an element of habit in what she's doing, possibly coupled with the tiniest remnants of cat wee residue that she can smell but we can't. Make sure the rug is throughly cleaned with biological detergent or an enzymatic cleaner like Simple Solution. Don't use bleach or anything ammonia based as it will encourage her to wee on it again.
Does she have a littertray inside, for emergencies?0 -
its on a wooden floor.we did have a fluffy rug before this & she peed on that to begin with but put it down to new surroundings as she only moved in then, then she stopped after a while (cant remeber how long maybe month)so we have replaced the old one with a new one.we didnt have litter tray before & she allways went outside but since she started to pee on the new rug she now has a litter tray.the other cat is fine, she goes outside like before0

Thanks for that - strange cat fact for you taken from Vicky Hall's very interesting book 'Cat Confidential'!!! She describes how mother cats help train their kittens (based on a natural impulse) to urinate/defecate away from the nest by sensing when the floor substrait changes, it's very clever. When they move from say, hard floor to soft earth/sawdust, they know to 'go'. So, your cat, moving from hard floor to nice soft rug..? Allegedly cats won't 'go' next to their food source, so one way of discouraging her might be to put cat biscuits down on the rug. Tinfoil is a very good deterrant, too. Good luck - I know it's very frustrating trying to solve behaviour issues like this, don't you wish they could talk!0

If it's a new rug,it may be treated with something that mimicks another cat's scent so your cat is trying to get rid of the 'false' scent by weeing on the rug.0

Could you make the rug smell more like you. I'm thinking this could stop trying to mark it because it would smell like its always been there.
Suggestions:
Lots of laying on the new rug.
Put rug in your bed(with or without you in it).
Use your rug as a dirty laundry point(not wet or v. smelly things).
No idea if this would work but we just bought our dog a new bed and initially she didn't like it, but once it had been at the bottom of our bed for a couple of nights she adopted it.0 -
lol funily enough one of my 2 started doing this on a new shaggy type rug i got by the 3rd time i was fed up,i cleaned it with bio washing powder and bought a feliway plug in and spray sprayed the spray on the spot once a day and stoped after 30 days.

The way one of mine is mooching around and shouting at me because I won't let him out this time of night, no, I do not wish they could talk anything other than Cat.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Hi,
There is a specifically designed product on the market that mimicks a cats natural pheromones so the cat thinks that they have already marked your stuff! You CAN NOT SMELL IT! It is called FELIWAY - google them and their is loads of cat urine elimatation behaviour advive on there- fantastic.
Remember- to use the product for 30 conseutive days - so the cat "gets it" and becomes happy with the new arrangement!
Do not spray near the cat- it can make a hissing sound and carrys an alcohol base that the cats do not like- evaportes quickly though_READ the info on the website! 100% vet recomended!
Another product that is fantastic for feline stress related issues - which this is I am afraid it is = zylkene.co.uk- you do not need a prescription - again google and read reviews -0 -
