It will more than likely be the sugar in it!

Whoever told you it could contai herion or coke, is a complete moron! As if a childs medicine would ever contain an illegal drug like the 2 mentioned :)

as the others have said - its more likely to be a reaction to the colourings or sweeteners or flavourings.
If you are concerned about a babies cough then I would consult a GP. the over the counter stuff does no good at all.

I thought you weren't allowed to give cough medicine to under 6s any more? Im sure that's what the pharmacist told me when I asked.

Am I reading right...or did someone actually write that they have been told that cough medicine has heroin in it...and they believed them?

The over the counter preparations are for kids over 6 only but the ones that are in the aisles of tesco/asda are just acetic acid or glycerol and they really just soothe the throat if anything. Complete waste of money.

These are the nightmare colours that are in far too many medications given to children, including prescription antibiotics.

They are banned from food for babies and toddlers, but are allowed in medication that have to have.

And they are banned in several other countries though for some reason no-one with power in this country is taking it seriously enough.

Those of us with children who react badly to these things can see the damage it's doing.

Have a look at the label. If it says any of those numbers, or sunset yellow, quinoline yellow, tartrazine, allura red for example, you probably need to look into avoiding them in future.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • I don't think the OP actually thinks there is heroin/coke in it! They were told there is 'something like those' in cough medicines, and it used to be true, a lot of cough medicines used to contain Codeine, which is legal but pretty powerful stuff, albeit not quite at the level of heroin! I was on a dose of 240mg Codeine a day at one point and I was totally spaced out/bonkers.

There are a few adult cough medicines that still contain Codeine but not straight off the shelf, and it definitely won't be in a kids one.

    It's just a sugar rush.

Just gave our 1 yr old some cough medicine from Tesco and he is behaving very oddly now.

We gave the recomended dose 1x 5mil spoon. It says for 1 to 5 yr olds.

Someone said it contains stuff like heroin and coke is that right?

Wasn't in the Daily Mail was it? OMG it must be true if it was... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
