Can i get my bank to settle a debt

I'm leaving for Australia at the end of the month and was wondering whether I could ask HSBC if they would settle my credit card for less. I currently owe them £500 and that is the limit on the credit card. Does anyone know if they are likely to settle for less, maybe around £250? and if so how do i do this?

I doubt they will. 250 or 500, you're not talking a lot of money, and I would think anyone who can offer 250 can offer 500.
