Changing Saving account, Sort code + Account numbers, for security?

I misplaced my wallet, which had some credit and saving account cards in, which I cant seem to find in my room.

I will have a more thouough look later, but incase I have left them somehwere,

as a security measure, if i phone the savings account/bank for them to send a new card.

Will they just change the 16 digit number? or they can change the 6 digit sort code + account number too?

Can changing the sort code +account number be done, with the Original saving account.

Wil the savings account company, will they send a new card with the same 16 digit number? or a differnt one?

In which instances do they send a different sort code+ account number? can you request these changes? (For security, incase it gets in somebody elses hands).


Perhaps its worth opening another savings account, as i would like one for a part time weekend job I will be doing along side my mon-friday job.

I would like this money to be in a seperate savings account. Can you open another savings account, using the same saivng account type?

A cheque states account number and sort code. You should assume everyone knows your account number and sort code.

Indeed - it always makes me chuckle (as well as have unkind thoughts) when people won't tell you their account details so that you can pay them electronically, yet are quite happy to give out a cheque which contains the same details neatly printed out for anyone to read.

Why would they change the sort code? That's a function of which bank branch you are at. Do you want to move to a new branch?

In most instances a bank will issue you just with a new card and pin number if the card has been reported as lost/ stolen. I only know of a few cases in which a customer has changed his/ her bank details ie account number because of fraud taking place on the account.

The sort code is a branch identifier and so the sort code would only be different if you opened an account at a different branch. Also each bank has a prefix at the beginning of the number ie (20-00-00) would be a Barclays account etc.

In my view, just get the card cancelled and keep a close eye on the account just incase anything does happen.

When I had to report my cards stolen / missing, they issued new cards with different 16-digit numbers across the middle. There was no evidence that the accounts themselves had been compromised so there was no need to change accounts.
