British gas 'green click'

Hi, i'm switching and on energyhelpline - my cheapest (apart from one with an appauling star rating on customer services) was BG 'green click'. It seems that green electricity will be suplied 'free of charge' until the end of the year. Doesn't tell you what happens after then. Has anyone got any further info on this - green and cheap, seems too good to be true...

  • I am considering this tariff too. The British Gas website says,

Renewable electricity will be supplied until 31st March 2007. British Gas is currently working on securing new Green Electricity supplies from renewable sources after March 2007. If you sign up we will update you in the new year.

So it looks like it is guaranteed green until the end of March, if they cannot supply after this then simply switch again.
  • Hi,

I have been looking at switching on energyhelpline too and both British Gas - Green Click Energy and British Gas - Click Energy (Normal) come up as my top suppliers, both with the same amount of savings.

The thing is, I am already with Scottish Gas so I am wondering how long these tarrifs have been running and why I haven't been advised by Scottish Gas to change to it if is cheaper for me. I was just using my monthly direct debit payments to compare but it says I would save around £160 per year.

Does anyone know if these tariffs have been running a while? Do you think I have any case for getting a refund from Scottish Gas? I have been with Scottish Gas for more than 6 years!

Also I take it I can't use the switching service if I am not actually going to change supplier?

I'm going to phone Scottish Gas to query the tariff, but just looking for any info before I do!

    Hi idjutboy,

The clcik energy tariff has been running for a while now, and is much cheaper than the standard tariff. However the account is substantially different in the fact that you have to provide your own meter readings, you have to pay by direct debit and telephone support is at a premium rate number. Unfortunately you have no case for a refund as they are not obliged to tell you they have a cheaper tariff. However if you call up asking for your usage details as you are planning to change supplier they may give you a months free electricity, however if you go ahead and switch to click I don't know if you will receive it as you would already then be on a discounted tariff. Also remember if you are on a price protection package you could be liable to cancellation fees.
  • Thanks tripled.

Judging by some of the comments here by folk who have tried to switch to Click Energy I might give it a miss anyway!

I'll phone them to get my usage stats (I thought I was going to have to work that out myself from my bills!) and see what they say, it might make a difference to who's my cheapest supplier anyway.
