Is Powergen ripping me off
I recieved a letter from Powergen this morning telling me that i have an outstanding balance of £73.00
I have always used a card meter because that was already here when i moved to my flat 6 years ago so how can i owe money as i have already paid for it.
Now they are expecting me to pay an extra £5 per week toward paying off the debt.
I have tried all day to phone them but they are not picking up.
What can i do as i really cannot afford an extra £20 per month.

Yes they are ripping you off, as you will be paying extra for having a prepayment meter! You would be best to change to a credit meter and then switch to the cheapest supplier, however you will need to pay off this debt first. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I would ask them for the details of how the "debt" has come about. I guess it depends on how the card meter works in terms of how much you pay and how much you use and how the two interlink. I know it is possible to get into debt on a card meter, but I thought it was only a small amount.
Can you tell how much credit/debt you have on the meter? If you can, I would keep an eye on it to make sure you aren't going into debt. Or do they normally send you a statement every few months?
Prices have gone up a lot over the last few months, so that may be itIndecision is the key to flexibility
