Problem with my old Dell Inspiron 1300

Whilst it's on it's working fine, but when I go to shut it down, instead of closing some writing very briefly appears on the screen, then it opens up.

It always closes down on a second attempt, but when it restarts I often get 'You have recovered from a serious error blah blash blah' and when restarting I often lose details on some on my sites.

I have grown very fond of my old lappy is it now seriously ill? :(

Any advice would be welcome but please guys and ladies put it in real simple terms because I'm really simple at IT.

Thanks Adey.

    try this first
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ma..._anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
    Reboot
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see what is running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (administrator)

Go to control panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. Check on the System Error logs and the Application logs. You're looking for something with a red cross next to it around the time you turn off the laptop. Clicking on an entry will tell you what caused it. For example, I have one on a virtualmachine which said "Hanging application EZWdemo50.exe". I know what that program is.

If its a driver or an application, check for an update.
