            We have two cars, one personal one business use, which my fiance and I both drive. The estate car was insured with NU through Budget and back in Feb someone backed into him in a car park, which, being law abiding people we told NU about. The other person claimed they were not at fault until they saw photos showing they were so the claim was cancelled. Then in Septamber he parked outside a builders merchants and the car somehow (handbrake was fully on) rolled down the hill into a summer house outside. the result was a Cat C write off (too expensive to repair) which has only been settled this week. NU have been very unhelpful, especially when its the indian call centre (told me 5 or 6 times to book an engineers exam when it had been done weeks earlier but they wouldnt believe me or the engineer here) As the new car was bought on a weekend away from home I called them and asked for a new policy to start. I was told you would have 14 days to cancel without penalty. So today I call around and get a better quote, call to cancel the two policies, one for the original car as it is now off the road and the new car. The original policy... they take over £180 back for costs on a £480 policy started on 2nd October this year and the other one, they take £31 for one week of cover. So the new company calls NU to confirm the details I gave, they say that the claim in February wasnt cancelled and so there is an extra claim, which costs me another £80 on top for the new policy.
I hate Norwich Union and their sub continental parrots. I have repeatedly asked their staff to speak more slowly as I find their accents very difficult to decipher but nope... they rattle on calling me some strange name which bears no resemblance to my actual name. They are not a charity, we do not have to put up with this, so why do we ? Are we scared of being called racist? Well call me that if you want but I am the customer, NU should be more concerned about my needs than their cost cutting but they arent. I do not see why we should be expected to pay for such terrible service. They do nothing for us as customers. I would be as well speaking to an automated voice recognition system than someone in their call centre. I have made it clear that although the new company will cost more, I am leaving as I am sick and tired of being treated so badly.
I do not know if the new company will be so great either but please, if you are thinking about "saving" on your car insurance do not consider NU. They pay peanuts to staff on the other side of the world who know nothing of our society and do not listen when you try to explain, even the other insurance companies are fed up speaking to them.
So now I have a shiny new policy costing me £584.11 but at least if anything does go wrong I wont have to explain the basics or try to decipher a virtually unintelligible accent.
Just going off for a drive to scream alone for a while

I have had dealings with Norwich Union aswell and I will never go with them again. There prices are competitive but should you actually need to claim even if you are not to blame they are useless. There are a lot of communication issues because you cant understand what the advisors are saying and they cant understand you and it leads to a whole lot of problems.Im done with that company now. They would probably be quite a good insurer with the products they offer but they let themselves down big time because they're trying to save as much money as they can with there customer service.0
