Dirty Dancing – the West End's feelgood musical

Options
Nothing can take you for a rollercoaster ride into your past better than Dirty Dancing The musical at the Aldwych theatre in London.

To begin with, the musical has some of the most beloved British numbers like Hey Baby, Hungry Eyes & I’ve Had The Time of My Life. Second these numbers are performed by the sexiest men and women of the industry. But above all is the magnetic story which touches everyone’s hearts… the youth and the elderly alike because it is about love, first passions, first moments, first indefinable feelings… the sweetest memories. Icing on the cake… Dirty Dancing presents probably the most bare and raunchy moves you could think of to be watching live on theatre.

When it opened up at the Aldwych Theatre in 1987, it was called mediocre but Dirty Dancing tickets amassed £12 million in advanced bookings (the highest of West End history) and are at the moment the most sought after West End tickets after perhaps, The Lion King. In the West End, Dirty Dancing theatre tickets have been bought by more than five million people and they continue to grow every month, without fail.

The musical is about life in the sixties, when the atmosphere was ripe with civil, political, social and racial turmoil; the hippie movement, Kennedy, acceptability of abortion and the Peace Corps were all the talk of the day. Evergreen Rock n Roll music was created in that era; the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Doors and Led Zeppelin were gods and the youth was discovering its true purpose. That is the time Dirty Dancing London is set into and it is able to depict not only the ambiance but inspires the very feelings we felt when going through those times ourselves.
