Screw up - Car insurance canceled. Am I screwed? Esure.

Heres the story.

Esure

Was paying monthly on policy by direct debit, coming out about the 5th of the month. December I was a few quid short so rather than let the dd bounce I canceled it and rang up and paid on the 7th, no problem. The girl tried to set up a direct debit but she said the computer was down so I left it. I did try calling back in the snowy period but was put on hold forever and gave up.

Forgot all about it in Jan till the lady next door popped round with a letter that had come through her door by mistake. Dated 21st jan although she said it had dropped through on the 27th. Ive just come back from a few days away so only picked it up today.

It says that if payment isnt received by the 29th the policy will be canceled. This has now passed so I presume i'm no longer insured.

Im pretty shocked, no warning or anything other than the 7 days, no phonecall or anything and the letter was posted friday so once delivered thats about 3 days warning. Its only £40 as well which I do have.

I guess what im wondering is a>What are my chances of them letting me pay up and continue?, b>Is there a blacklist?

Pretty concerned here naturally as I need the car for work and can do without tomorrow but will need it friday.

Just angry with myself and peed off with Esure who seem happy to charge a fee for anything under the sun but pretty much impossible.

Blacklist. Well they can mark you down as non payment on your credit record, Then pass on the debt to a debt collector
who may call you day and night. Been there with CC debts.

If you can pay you should be phoning them ASAP and grovelling.... Going to another insurance company will be expensive as
you have no NCD to use and also declare you have had a policy cancelled which wont go down well.
They may refuse credit and insist on payment in full.

If its parked on the road, Hope an ANPR vehicle doesn't drive past it. Otherwise it wont be there when you do need it.
    £££ to get it back.

    Thanks.
I'll try the grovelling. Hoping the girl made a note that the computer was down when I tried to do the DD.
Being as Esure seem to have a charge for everything they dont seem a lot different to a DCA I might just be lucky and they'll let me restart(with a £50 fee ofcourse).
Luckily i'm parked in a private carpark and havn't been out in it since before I went away.
I think the blacklist thing was more on the fact ive had a canceled policy and having to declare it which I imagine can be pretty damning.

    Just a moment.

    Quote from the agreement

"We may end the agreement by giving you 14 days notice in writing if you"

    -Break agreement etc

Well i'll be ringing them up pointing this out considering it says 7 in this letter. :)

Ending the premium finance and ending the policy are two separate issues. You need to read your policy booklet, most likely a section on cancellation under a section headed general conditions, to check what right of cancellation the insurer has.
  • All sorted, jokers had no record of me paying anything in december, she had to manually search and credit it. Just been charged a £28 fee for "re-setting the direct debit", needless to say I will not be renewing in a few months.
They came up as the cheapest but by the time youve amended your policy a couple of times, moved house and rang the 0845 number a few times it really would of been much cheaper to go elswhere. My premium has gone from £37 to £53 in 5 months and all thats happened is a 100 yard move round the corner.

I am never 1 to complain on the back of 1 bad experience but in my 13 years driving and 5 or 6 different insurance companies ive never come across such a thieving outfit.
