There is no conversation here. The buyer elects to pay by cheque, the buyer waits until the cheque has cleared. End of story.

If they want it straight away, cash or bank transfer. Cash preferably.

If they refuse, I would be telling them to b*gger off. Plenty more buyers out there.

This stinks. Why doesn't the buyer just go to the bank and buy a bankers' draft? They cost about £10.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Agree with others - either a single cheque / bankers draft that has been confirmed as cleared by the buyers bank (not just appeared as a credit to their account), or cash.

What about the issue of ownership? Are you going to hand over title upon receipt of the first cheque or on the final payment? Are you going to keep the V5C in your name until it's paid in full? Who insures the car? What about parking tickets and speeding fines? Seems dodgy to me.

Dont even need to do that. Providing you arrange with the bank in advance the buyer can arrange a large withdrawal at a branch local to the OP. The OP can then accompany the buyer to the bank to verify that the cash is real.

Do still need to be careful though. We tried this when buying a car, arranged with the HSBC call centre to withdraw 2 grand from their Maidenhead branch on a Saturday (seller was emigrating the next day) and it turns out the Maidenhead branch is closed on Saturdays so we had to go to the middle of bloody Reading. (Also half way there, someone rear ended my car and wrote it off, had to throw my partner into a taxi to complete the journey, which cost another 50 quid or so.)

Sounds dodgy to me. As others have said, theres no earthly reason to be paying with 15 cheques of £100 each. If your buyer actually has the £1500 in the bank why won't they just write a cheque for the full amount? Then he/she can pick up the car once its cleared - the assumption is therefore they don't have the money in their account and they're trying to pull a bit of a fast one.
