LG American Fridge Freezer

I bought an American Fridge freezer with drinks dispenser and homebar some 3 years ago. The small refreshment bar door broke within the guarantee period and was replaced under warranty. The engineer who replaced it advised us to tape up the door and not to use it as they had problems with them and would not last very long. We paid a higher price for an appliance with this feature and did not see why we had to discontinue the use. Sure enough the door failed again and we are looking at £134 for a new door (it's only a small one not the large fridge door). I have asked them for their reassurance that the problems with the design of the door have been resolved but they are being most unhelpful and giving us completely irrelevant answers. They are saying that unfortunately, they cannot guarantee the life span of an electrical appliance as faults can occur at any given time. This is not even an electrical part that has failed. It is very flimsy and badly designed and when mentioned that you could no longer buy an appliance with that particular feature they say it was not discontinued because of any faults but was due to a new range of units available.
What are my rights in this respect?
I bought from retailer with an extended retailer warranty but they have since gone into liquidation.

I doubt there is much you can do. The best when you speak with someone is to speak with a supervisor or a manager because the customer service employees always try to stick to what they're told and they don't have much decision power. Good luck with all that. I know it can get so frustrating.
  • Yes, none of their correspondence has even been relevant to the question asked. The first time I raised the query of the problem with the door the answer I got was:-
As we did not create the software for this device we would not be able to supply you with it. There are plenty of free alternatives on the internet that will help you achieve DVD writing...
The latest response I received was :- Unfortunately this is not compatible with the NERO media.

Just cannot get any sense from them.

Your retailer has gone so you really have no rights. Source and buy a new door.
  • I have seen a new door (£134) bearing in mind that it is only the small door. I have asked LG if they can guarantee the door for 12 months and they said they cannot guarantee this. the door is badly designed and prone to breaking which is why the engineer advised us not to use it. I do not want to spend £134 and find it breaks the following day and there's nothing I can do about it.
