Make sure you make it fun and I am sure she will enjoy it

Swimming is really worth a go, I read about dog hydrotherapy quote often in dog magazines and it seems a good idea. Swimming is often recommended exercise for humans with joint problems too!
Good luck!0 -
If you speak with your vet, they will have details of the pools nearest to you.
Good luck with it, im sure she'll love it!What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Just want to say try it......its fantastic when it works but not all dogs like it. I've been involved quite a bit with horses in the past and naturally thought of it when we had an old dog who was getting old age stout but arthritic. Our old girl thought it was the worst thing that had ever happened to her and I was surprised to learn lots of dogs, even dogs thatlike to swim (our breed doesn't as a rule, though breeder friends have a hydrotherapy centre and their dogs use it well!) don't enjoy the experience.0

We took our english setter swimming cos we were told it would help his arthritic hips. The only part of the experience he ever enjoyed was being dried off after !!!
Can you give less dry food and top up her bowl with cabbage and carrots?? that way shes not getting so much calorific food, but is still eating. worked a treat on my spaniel (the breeder told me to do it) and i still got to give her a bowl of food without feeling like she wasnt getting anything..Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0 -

As far as food goes, Burns is great for slimming dogs down as it's very low in carbs and fats. It's produced by a vets and is often recommended as an alternative to prescription diets. It's pricey but when you compare the feeding guides to prescription diets it works out much cheaper.

I was told by the vet my dog needs to be on a low fat dit for his sensitive tum, but the royal canin recommend had a feeding guide of 415g per day for my dog, burns is 220g. That's a big difference.
Hydrotherapy sounds great.
Good luck with her.Sigless0 -
Hi
Thanks for all of your replies.
I tried ringing the hydro pool at Wyke which woud have been absolutely ideal for me to take her to, it appears they must have closed down.
I rang the vets and they said they have two that they refer to but they are an hour away and if I were taking Kimber each week, I don't think she would be too impressed as she is not great at travelling any more.
I need to a friend who has a swimming pool that they would let her go in, Unfortuantely I don't have one.
I will look into the Burn's food. She has tried James Wellbeloved, Hills and IAMS and has less than the recommended amount.
Once again thanks for your thoughts and ideas, I will continue to perservere with her and get her moving as much as I can, I say that as she is sat at the side of me snoring.

If you choose to reduce her food, give her some porridge for pudding (made with water). It will fill her tummy up and she wont put on any weight. My Buddy has this and i make up a batch that lasts him 2 days, put it in a lock and lock which will keep it good.0

I will try your porridge idea, if she will eat it,that would be good as it is slow releasing so shoul dkeep her energy levels up.
Fingers crossed that she will eat it,I'm a little doubtful but will certainly give it a go.
I have tried different fruit and veg but she has none of it.
Thanks
