My ex and I ran a business together. It worked very well for 10 years. We had defined roles. He worked as a consultant. I managed the client liason side of it all, dealt with initial enquiries, set up meetings, handled queries. I also worked alongside the accountants and made sure all the paperwork they needed was up to date. I think the fact that he rarely worked at home helped. Wouldn't have wanted to be under each others feet 24/7. He would have driven me nuts!!! Its not something I would really want to do again but Im glad I have the experience of it all.

Yes and so have other family members-with their other halves and as long as roles are defined it works well.

I have worked at home with my husband since 2002 and we haven't killed each other yet! We each have jobs we tend to do, but can chop & change as needs be. I usually go out with friends one day a week just for a change of scene. Works for us, although most of the people we know say it isn't something they could do.

I did laugh at the disappearing thing! My H is expert at it. I just let it go.

  • We do and it has its ups and downs.

It's important to separate the two sides completely. We behave professionally at all times at work, and we try to avoid any 'leaching' of home into work, or work into home. We have staff and it normally takes them a couple of months to realise we are personal as well as work partners. I've worked at family firms myself where it's been a nightmare for non-family members, so I'm aware of the possible problems.

There are some odd times where we've had an argument at home, aren't really talking/being friendly, but trot into work and are completely normal, then get home and go back into sulking modes, and back to perfectly normal again the next day at work, then back to strops at home in the evening....quite funny really.

We do have clearly defined roles and don't work that near each other, so it's not like we are in each others pockets 24/7, which I wouldn't like.

Good points are you are in business with someone you can really trust, you back each other 100%.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
