Yes, other options you could look at are British Gas and Eon. They may be able to offer you a better price. In terms of service I have no experience of either.
You may be better off putting the money into a savings account each month and then calling out a private plumber if you have a problem - that is of course a decision you need to make yourself.0 -

I think your idea to create my own fund is good but people like Homeserve at least have the contractors available in an emergency which is an advantage when you are trying to get a tradesman in an emergency.0 -
Find out what Homeserve are charging new customers. It is likely to be cheaper. Ring them and threaten to cancel and they may give you the same rate. Alternatively, if their new customer rate is the cheapest, it may be worth to cancel, then resign as a new customer.0

We had a homeserve policy but I cancelled the direct debit, they offered it again at about a quarter of the price !
However please have a google search for Homeserve complaints on here and elsewhere first
