Just got my bill and found NPower wanted to nearly double my direct debit. I phoned to say oh no you don't and they offered to switch me to a different tariff. I shopped around and actually the new tarriff they offered is cheapest for me. Its basically just a newer version of the one I'm on now but shouldn't they have to at least tell you if they introduce a new tariff that you qualify for and is cheaper than yours. Personally I think if you already qualify for it they should switch you to it automatically instead of making you pay more until you complain.

    No there is no requirement.

Ever been into an HMV store? You'll find identical products around the store at a range of prices.

Morally / in the interests of good customer relations perhaps but, as Premier has already basically pointed out there is no legal requirement on Npower (or any other company / industry) to offer you the cheapest price they could.

DDI collectors are however supposed to give advance notice before making any changes to that mandate

The reason they need to increase your DD probably you have used more than in previous years or your bills have been based on estimates and you have not checked you bill and advise them of the correct reading.

In terms of telling you about other tariffs does you mobile operator tell you? No. Also some tariffs are for a fixed period so you cant change unless you pay a penalty.
