Hi
A long story that l will give a brief resume - if further details are needed happy to supply.
Firstly, l know nothing about House Insurance and claims so please be kind to me if l ask what appears to be a simple question - Thanks
Daughter lived in rented accomodation became ill and house got into a bit of a mess.( She acknowledges that it could have been cleaner and that things had not been dealt with correctly) Spoke with agent who said she would sort it out just wanted them to stick to leaving date.
Had a call from the police stating that the agent wanted to press charges for malicious damage - they went to police station and were told that it seemed like they wanted a crime number for insurance purposes . They would not be taking any action
Received a letter from a firm of loss assessor yesterday looking for the sum of £1,800 to be sent to them for their claim plus a further £1,200 in respect of policy excess and contents to eb paid to the Landlord.
I have asked for a breakdown of both these figures -
However, l am unsure is this normal practice?
Do we have any rights to question these amounts? if so, what course of action should we take.
Generally any information of if you could point me to the direction which, l can get some help it would be most appreciated.
many thanks

So this is nothing to do with Insurance ? The landlord is trying to claim off your daughter directly and has got a loss assessor taking this up for them.
Suggest that she gets legal advice. If she had legal expenses cover with any Contents Insurance that she had, it might be worth looking into whether that offers a cover.
I certainly would advise against any form of communication with the landlord or anyone acting for them, until legal advice had been sought. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thank you huckster,
I am sorry if l posted on wrong board - as l said at the start of my post my knowledge of Insurance is very limited. I posted a problem that l thought came under the remit of this board. I have found these boards to be invaluable often giving great support or pointing a person in the right direction.
Thank you for your time and my apologies for my error0 -
It is insurance related - it sounds as if the landlord has claimed against his insurance and the loss adjusters acting on behalf of the insurers are trying to recover their losses (plus the landlord's own losses, consisting of his excess and contents).
What was the nature of the damage?0
