When to Book a Package Holiday

Has anyone ever noticed the cost of a package holiday they have booked going DOWN in price. 10 friends of mine booked August 2010 for August 2011 and I booked in January 2011 for the same holiday to Mexico. I obviously paid slightly more as my friends were early bookers!!!!!! Once I booked mine - the price kept dropping -by a whopping £280 - even today the price is lower than I paid early January. On writing to the Thomas Cook - I was informed this is in their terms and conditions - usual reply ....................... so when is the best time to book!!!!!!!!

The best thing to do is not go back and check and just look forward to the holiday.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

If you were booking after them I would have left it as late as possible, checking regularly to make sure a seat was available. My parents are currently in Cuba and booked in Dec. Risky business but can be very worthwhile if you know what your doing.0 -
Always a difficult one these days, it varies so much. Many companies have a demand & supply policy so prices do flucuate. The question asked now is risk of getting the holiday you want, if you want a particular holiday then if you wait will you lose it.
I wanted the same holiday this year as last and booked when we returned, that holiday didn't go down in price from when I booked, it rose and now is sold out.
I wanted a particular holiday and almost eveyone we met there re-books the same weeks each year! It's a very popular holiday destination for families.
If you are happy to take pot luck nearer the time than there will always be bargains. The holiday companies are really struggling at the moment with Tunisia & Eygpt so they may reduce a few prices to get sales.0 -
The best time to book is when you see a price your happy to pay. There's no set rules its all down to availability and current circumstances. I got an excellent deal to Dominican for april 2010 by booking early, then the earthquake in Haiti happened and the prices plummeted for there, but i'd been happy with the price so just put it down to experience.0
