Hi,
Quick but probably unanswerable question - timing chain went on my primera - noticed the rattle last Thursday and hardly driven it since. Anway we're scrapping it as it was more expensive to replace than the car was worth BUT have to drive it to the scrappy 25 miles away as we don't end up with much if we get it collected. What do you think my chances of getting there without it snapping are?

Very high, if it has only just started. The chances are that the car will continue in that condition for some time before giving up.
I'd consider sticking it up on ebay though. If it's drivable you'll most likely get a couple of hundred quid for it from someone who wants to break it up.0 -
Are you with the AA/RAC?0

HI,
Thanks jase1 - that's reassuring. I'm getting about 180 - 200 from the scrappy though so for the sake of a quick sale it's easier that way.
Mike72 - yes with Green flag and will have someone follwing us just in case - just wasn't sure what would happen if it went! No exciting explosions or anyting?0 -

Nice... :rotfl:
Thanks for that. I would do ebay but need the money to put a cambelt in the new one I'm getting at cost and i'm getting £180 for it at scrappy so I'm happy with that.
Thanks all for your help!0 -
You say the timing chain went but who has told you this? If a timing chain has snapped you won't be able to drive the car.0

It was my local garage. It hasn't snapped but its a nissan primera which has a problem with timing chains getting loose which is where it as at the moment.0
-
personally i would put it on ebay. be totally honest in your listing describing its condition fully.
you should get more than you will from the scrappy and it takes away any risk to you in driving it.
your local scrap trader will probably bid on it aswell....work permit granted!0 -
