selling car on ebays

Hi,
thanks for the advice yesterday - this is just about the car so I thought I'd start a new thread.
we're selling an old mini on ebay, now the people we brought it of kindly forgot to tell us that it was a cat d write off (or they didn't know either?)
we found out when we did a HPI check & it comes up as
D - Vehicle damaged but repairable - the insurer decided not to repair
this was 1 year after being made, then it was done up & sold to the people that sold it to us in 2003.
Now from 1998 - 2006 it has been passing MOT's no problem so the car is fine & road leagal. Should I include all of this in my advert or is that being too honest? I don't want to put people off but don't want people to do the check themselves then not trust me thinking I'm trying to hide it?
Does it make a lot of diference to a cars value anyway?
Thanks for any help (again),
worto.

The point is that you know a Cat D so, if you don't put it in the listing, you ARE trying to hide it.
You have to be honest to sell cars or the deal will just fall through. Here's one that I sold in September. I was careful to list all the faults so when the buyer turned up there were no surprises. I got a good price and positive feedback and had the cash in my pocket two hours after end of auction.
I probably spent an hour getting that auction "right" but it was worth it for the price I got. Aim was to be open and honest about the car's faults but still not afraid to praise it's good side
Can I help?0 -
thanks, I like your ad. I think I'll do one similar, I guess the no surprises for the buyer bit is key as it's a waste of evereyones time if they get here then change thier mind because of something!
I notice some people hide thier numberplates on photos' - is there any point to this?
cheers,

Yes, it is so people cannot clone your car and copy the number plate and drive at 100 miles an hour everywhere and the person selling the car on ebay getting all the tickets!0

but 100's of people see my car & number plate everyday anyway?
one of my mates had his car cloned & a gang kept using it to ram raid shops, kind of got used to it in the end - the police used to turn up every couple of weeks! was a bit fo a shock the first time though!
I guess they must have cought them in the end it's been quiet for a while now.
