Free insulation for our existing dual fuel customers

At British Gas we're committed to helping our customers save energy and money.

That's why we're offering to install free loft or cavity wall insulation to all our existing dual fuel customers.

FREE Loft insulation could save you around £145* on your energy bill or if you prefer, FREE cavity wall insulation could save you around £110* each year.

How will it save me money?
Insulation, locks in your heat, so you won't need to have your heating on as much to stay warm. It's not just a one-off saving either; it helps to save you money year after year.

What does it involve?
It' straightforward and takes less than a day to install. Loft insulation is a thick material simply rolled onto the loft floor. Cavity wall insulation is a filling blown into the gaps between the exterior walls.

How do I apply?
Simply click on the apply button below to register your details. To complete the registration, you'll need to confirm your energy account reference number.

Terms and Conditions

Free Insulation for Dual Fuel Customers

The free loft or cavity wall insulation offer (the "Offer") is available to British Gas domestic dual fuel customers in mainland Great Britain only who satisfy the criteria below. To be eligible for the Offer, British Gas customers must (i) register their interest in the Offer over the telephone or the internet by no later than 11.59pm UK time on 31 May 2011 (the "Registration Deadline Day"), and (ii) be registered as taking their gas and electricity fuel supply from the date they register their interest with British Gas in the Offer and also on the day(s) that their free insulation installation is carried out (the "Insulation Installation Period"). It is a condition of this Offer that customers agree that the Offer related installation work must have been completed by 31 December 2011. British Gas reserves the right to withdraw or cease work on any free insulation installation if its records show that a customer is not a British Gas gas and electricity customer on the Registration Deadline Day or during the Insulation Installation Period.

One Offer per customer. Offer subject to survey. Customers will only be eligible for free measures under the Offer that are recommended by British Gas' appointed surveyor. Free insulation depends on type and size of property and will be capped at 140m2 (cavity wall) and 80m2 (loft). Insulation installations that require insulation beyond these limits will be chargeable. Not all homes are suitable for loft or cavity wall insulation. Offer excludes the cost of scaffolding and any specialist equipment if required. Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other British Gas insulation offer. Offer only applicable to residential customers and excludes all other customers and/or properties including without limitation commercial or part commercial premises. British Gas reserves the right to exclude customers with any outstanding debt from taking advantage of the Offer. For loft insulation the Offer only applies where the thickness of existing insulation is less than 60mm.

The Offer is subject to availability and subject to change or withdrawal at any time including, without limitation, where the supply or installation of loft or cavity wall insulation (the "Products") does not qualify for carbon emissions credits for the purpose of the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (or any replacement scheme) or if the amount of carbon emissions credits for which the Products qualify is materially reduced.

Only for dual fuel customers. Seems very unfair of those who get their electricity from bgas and don't have a gas supply. What possible reasoning can there be for that?

I don't know! Try contacting them via the website to ask.

I assume it's to stop people who have only one fuel with BG from applying but in your situation then it's obviously not possible to have both supplies with them.

Thanks for spotting this deal smidgey- the TandCs look identical to me.
This being BG - just wondering what's in it for them.
Do BG get govt subsidy if they do insulation for 70+ or on benefits?

BG have always offered free insulation to anyone over 70 or on benefits so I'd imagine the question is there to identify anyone they would usually insulate for free anyway.

Insulation is fairly cheap and now BG have their own insulation arm it may do wonders for their publicity, so worth the cost of giving 200,000 people free insulation?
  • The insulation isnt free although it may appear free, we all pay a subsidy from our utility bills to pay for insulation, light bulbs and other solar/wind generation

Well - the surveyor arrived yesterday - checked the loft - checked the existing insulation - checked I was a duel fuel customer - said everything checked out and the insulation would be carried out at no charge to me.
The insulation folk will now contact me to set a date for the work to be carried out.
British Gas get some sort of EU climate change/carbon reduction points for doing it.
    Very pleasant experience.
    Thank you smidgey.
